Joynal Abedin Khan :Police have started operation to nab the four identified molesters involved in the incident of sexual harassment on women at Suhrawardy Udyan near the TSC of Dhaka University on Pahela Baishakh evening “The identified molesters will be arrested very soon. We have asked the police to take necessary initiatives in this regard,” Proctor of DU Professor Dr M Amzad Ali told the New Nation on Sunday.He said: “We hope the members of law enforcing agencies will launch an all out operation to nab the culprits based on the information and evidence collected from the spot and watching CCTV footage.” Earlier on Saturday night, the Dhaka University authorities traced at least seven culprits filtering the CCTV footage, involved in the incident. Of them, four persons were specifically identified by the Varsity authorities. According to sources, one was identified as Latif Rana, a student of Government Titumir College in the capital. His photo went viral on the facebook and other social media yesterday. Replying to a query, Prof Amzad Ali said: “We have got some solid evidences that the youths gheraoed the women in several spots on the day. The University probe body in this regard also trying to collect more information to the clear their detail identities.” “We will hand over our findings, including the documents, to the concerned police station to nab the culprits,” said the Chief Law enforcing official of DU. “Police are verifying political identities of the culprits. But no political identity of the culprits will be considered,” he said.Sirajul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station said: “We have collected necessary evidence of the suspects from different sources. The molesters will be arrested in a short time.”Police said, about 100 CCTV cameras were installed in the area as part of the security measures. Some 19 cameras were installed around the Suhrawardy Udyan alone. The footage from 6:31pm to 7:27pm shows some girls wearing traditional Baishakhi dresses were surrounded by a group of youths.
