A police Inspector has been withdrawn after an extortion case was filed against him. Two other people, including his cousin faced the same charge.
The action was taken against Inspector Shafiqul Islam, In-Charge of Bholab Investigation Centre, said Officer-in-Charge of Rupganj Police Station Mahmudul Hassan.
He also said that they arrested a man, Al Amin, in connection with the extortion case.
The District Police Administration took the action against the Inspector on Wednesday after the
victim, Azizul Islam Sujan, filed the case, the OC said.
According to the case statement, Shafiqul’s cousin Humayun Hossain and Al Amin who introduced themselves as policemen locked Azizul Islam Sujon and his pregnant wife Rozina Begum in the room of Kanchan Police Outpost recently and demanded Tk 50,000 from them.
When Azizul refused to pay the money, Humayun and his accomplice threatened to file a narcotic case against him. He was released after his mother paid Tk 35,000, he alleged.
