Police HQ asks transgender people to stop harassment

Police have warned that they will take legal action against the transgender people for any activities that go against public interest.
A resident under Pallabi police station area complained to the media and public relations wing of Bangladesh Police against some transgender community members of harassing him and his family members.
In the complaint, he mentioned that some transgender people visit houses and apartments in groups after the birth of a child in the area and on various occasions including Eid festivals.
They usually demand Tk2,000 to Tk3,000 from the families, and regularly collect toll from shops and force passengers on public transports to give them money.
If someone fails to meet their demands, they would behave very rudely, the complainant added.
To this end, the Police Headquarters informed the officer-in-charge of Pallabi police station to take action.Later, Pallabi police sat with the leaders of the local transgender community and discussed the matter following health guidelines. Officials of the media and public relations wing were connected online from the Police Headquarters.
At the meeting, police warned them of action under the law for such activities. In response, leaders of the transgender community promised that such activities would not happen in the future.
