BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed on Saturday accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s election campaign of violating the electoral law.
“No one can give promise of development after announcement of the election schedule as per law. Thus the Prime Minister is now taking the opportunity by throwing the words of development,” Moudud Ahmed said while addressing a discussion meeting at Jatiya Press Club organized by Bangladesh Labour Party, a partner of the BNP-led Alliance.
He said, “Such type of election campaign on the part of the Prime Minister is totally immoral and unlawful. It is also contrary to the country’s Constitution,” Moudud Ahmed said.
He criticized the Election Commission for its inaction to the issue.
“Our Election Commission is spineless and totally loyal to the government,” the former law minister said.
He asked the EC either to stop such practice immediately or to give the BNP equal opportunity.
“The prime minister has been seeking vote for ‘boat’ — the electoral symbol of the Awami League, expending public money,” the BNP leader said.
Moudud Ahmed alleged that the ruling quarters are liable for question papers leakage. They are destroying the nation’s backbone by this.
Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin, the Vice-Chairman of the BNP said, “If the government really wants to hold inclusive polls, it should free BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia from jail. She was sent to jail in a false case, which is clear to all.”
BNP central leader Nitai Roy Chowdhury and Ad. Rafik Sikdar were present, among others, in the programme.
Dr. Mustafizur Rhamen Iran presided over the program.
