The BNP on Wednesday feared that its Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman would be the next target of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“Our party members are worried that their Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman would be the government’s next target. The government is passing busy time to draft a plan to oppress Tarique,” said BNP Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday in a press briefing at party’s Nayapaltan central office. He made the remark referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s latest statement regarding bringing Tarique Rahman back to the country for trial.
Rizvi said, “Prime Minister is repressing and harassing Khaleda Zia by sending her to jail filing false case. Similarly her next target is Tarique Rahman.”
He said that the party men are also worried about the party chief Begum Khaleda Zia’s health condition in prison.
The BNP leader said the jail authorities are not taking any initiative for treatment of Khaleda Zia adding that the health minister was lying about her treatment.
The BNP leader said, “The former Prime Minister (Khaleda Zia) is not receiving treatment in the jail as per recommendations of the medical board formed by the government.”
