Gazipur Correspondent :

Country’s one of the leading readymade garments (RMG) manufacturers Standard Group is working hard to regain its export capacity.
A total of nine factories located in the same compound known at Jarun area at Konabari in Gazipur district were destroyed and set ablaze by hundreds of unidentified miscreants on November 28. 20I3.
The nine-storied building of the Group was completely devastated by the attack. The nine companies were separately registered under the company law. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was shocked to see such a destruction of a reputed company that earns foreign exchange. Inspired with the sympathy of the Prime Minister and Bangladesh Bank pledged to provide loan to the company at a lower rate as the company’s management and its 50’000 workers and employees are working to reinvigorate company through extra efforts day and night. In 1983, with one RMG unit named Standard, Garments, the company launched its business and gradually set up l9 organizations. The Standard Group’s yearly export earning stood at $300 Million. The group exports readymade garments to the US, EU countries, Canada and Japan. The Group received export trophy for several times. The Group Chairman Engineer Atikur Rahman achieved CIP status for his contribution to the economy. But a vested quarter is now again out to malign the company’s image and create hurdles so that the company cannot stand again on its own feet. They have started spreading false and fabricated news using some media. It was published in the media that Standard Group’s claim of Tk l00 crore for the loss from its insurance company. Standard Insurance Co Ltd. was rejected but the fact is that Standard Group, survey organizations, re- insurance company Sadharan Bima Corporation (SBC) and SBC’s re-insurance company Broker Triser of England are yet to submit the final estimated loss claim of Standard Group to its insurance company. A total of 10 survey firms are working to estimate the loss of the Group.
At the very initial stage following the insurance rule the organizations located in the’ Standard Group compound claimed Tk 454 crore. Later, after a scrutiny and estimate the group claimed Tk 337 crore from its insurance company. An insurance company can not pay any claim at its will or at the desire of the affected group. After proper investigation by all concerned and following insurance law and policy exhaustively the claims are settled. There is no scope for embezzlement of money through issuing fake policy in the insurance rules and regulations.
The affected companies of standard Group took insurance coverage and policy after paying due premium from Standard Insurance Co. So there is no irregularity and question does not arise at all to reject Tk 100 crore claim, said Chairman of the Company Engr Atikur Rahman. The chairman and the company’s M D AKM Mosharraf Hossain sought Prime Minister’s intervention in saving the group from the plot hatched by the vested quarters to destroy the group.
