Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina yesterday laid emphasis on holding of the national council of her party on time and asked leaders to prepare a draft on the overall activities to this end.
Sheikh Hasina also directed the leaders of her party to complete the remaining district conferences and form new committees there to hold the national council of the traditional party on time. The Awami League chief gave the directives while attending her Dhanmondi political office here yesterday afternoon. This was her first visit to the Dhanmondi office after assuming office through the January 5 election.
Sheikh Hasina arrived at the office at about 04:30 pm and held discussions with senior leaders of the party on various matters related to organizational activities during her staying there for more than an hour.
Awami League General Secretary and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Presidium member and Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, Presidium members Advocate Sahara Khatun and Nuh-ul-Alam Lenin, PM’s Adviser HT Imam, AL Joint Secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif and Barrister Fazley Noor Tapos, MP, among others, were present on the occasion.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, the AL general secretary said that the AL president mainly discussed the organisational activities and the ongoing councils of the party across the country. “She enquired about the number of councils held and how many councils are going to be held,” he said, adding that the AL chief also put emphasis on finishing all the councils as soon as possible.
Syed Ashraful said many district committees have already been formed after the holding of conferences, while the rest would be formed accordingly as senior leaders of the organization are visiting remaining districts to hold party’s conferences there.
Replying to a question, he said holding of the district, upazila and union-level conferences and formation of committees are part of regular party activities and these are being held as per directives of the party president.
