National Professor Dr M R Khan Friday urged the pharmaceutical companies to produce all kind of anti-cancer drugs to help cancer patients in the country.
“The pharmaceutical companies should produce all kinds of anti cancer drugs to help the thousands of poor cancer patients to manage their treatment costs in our country,” he said.
Dr Khan made the request while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of Bangladesh Cancer Congress 2014 at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in city’s Baridhara area.
Bangladesh Oncology Club (BOC) organized the two-day conference to increase the knowledge among the oncologists where around 450 participants including 20 foreign delegates are taking part.
Praising the quality and affordable price of the locally manufactured medicines he said, “If the companies start to manufacture some rare kinds of anti-cancer drugs, then the price of those medicine would be reduced by 50-80 percent than imported ones.”
BOC awarded three senior oncologists-Late ABM Karim, Late Professor S F Huq and Professor M Nurul Huda-for their life time achievements.
The club also inspired two young researchers -Abdullah Al-Amin and Shahnaj Parvin-with gold medals for their contribution in the field of oncology.
BOC Vice-President Prof Mohammad Hafizur Rahman Ansary, General Secretary Prof A M M Shariful Alam, Treasurer Prof Ahmed Sayeed were present among others with BOC President Prof. MA Hai in the chair.
