UNB, Dhaka :
Accusing the government of trying to cling to power with repressive acts, BNP on Monday said people will ditch Awami League if a credible and acceptable election is held in the country.
In a statement, party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “Awami League government has realised that it has no chance to return to power if it loses power this time. People have got so much fed-up with the current regime that they will completely reject
Awami League if a credible election is held.”
He also alleged that the government is resorting to all the cruel coercive acts to oppress the leaders and activists of BNP and other opposition parties.
The statement was issued protesting the jailing of BNP vice chairman Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku by a court in political cases.
Earlier in the day, a Sirajgonj court sent Tuku to jail rejecting his bail petitions as he surrendered before it in three cases filed against him in connection with political violence.
“Sending Tuku to jail is another chapter of the government’s repressive acts.
