People are rushing home after publishing news of a possible lockdown from Monday in the media. Many people are leaving Dhaka and thronging bus terminals as they think once the lockdown is imposed it will be extended.
The number of vehicles has already increased on Dhaka-Aricha highway. The Paturia-Daulatdia route is the main route for the people of 21 districts of south-west region.
Due to the closure of public transport and long-route buses, passengers are going to their destinations by rickshaw, van, motorcycle and CNG auto-rickshaw. They are changing vehicles several times and paying extra money.
On Saturday morning, a man named Shahidul Islam at Manikganj bus stand said: “I have been working in a bakery in Savar for 9 years. I used to work from a rented house with my family. Everything will be closed in the strict lockdown. So, I am going to my village”.
A Rabia Khatun said, “I used to cook in Kashimpur area. Everyone is going home hearing the news of a strict lockdown. So, I am going home too”.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Manikganj Sadar Thana Akbar Ali said “A check post has been set up at Manikganj bus stand on the Dhaka-Aricha highway. Unnecessary vehicles are being sent back. But, people are trying to reach their destinations”.
