UNB, Dhaka :
Noting that confidence and trust of the people is the biggest power for Awami League, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in Parliament on Wednesday that the “people of Bangladesh now have full confidence and trust” on the current AL government.
“Some political parties and few personalities are continuously speaking of ousting the government or calling for waging movement, but they’re not getting response from public. This proves people’s full confidence and trust on us,” she said, replying to a supplementary from Rustom Ali Farazi (Independent-Pirojpur) during the PM’s question-answer session.
Hasina, also the Leader of the House, said the countrymen know well that only Awami League could take the country ahead as this party under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had liberated the nation with the support of the country’s people.
“If the plans undertaken by the government could be implemented properly, it would be possible for Bangladesh to reach its desired goal,” she said, seeking cooperation and blessings of the people.
Replying to a starred question from Rustom Ali Farazi, the Prime Minister said that the victory of Bangladesh in the elections to Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and Inter Parliamentary
Union (IPU) is on one hands a rare achievement for the country and on the other it has proved the increasing cordial relationship of Bangladesh with the external world.
“Through this, it has been proved that the international community keeps full confidence on the current government’s continuous advancement towards establishing democracy, development and good governance,” she said.
Hasina said, it has been proved clearly that with the victory of Bangladesh in the two international organisations – CPA and IPU – Bangladesh is now being regarded as a role model in establishing democracy and good governance.
“Bangladesh is the only state in the world which gained the rare honour of becoming the chiefs of two international organisation – CPA and IPU – at a time.”
She also said that, the government, country’s people, the parliament and the MPs would have to remain active so that this rare honour continues to prevail.
Opining that selecting proper candidates in any international forum is very important, Hasina criticized the BNP government for “selecting a war criminal” for the OIC Secretary General post for which Bangladesh had to concede defeat to others.
