Half day hartal of Islami Chatra Sena and Islami Front, Chittagong passed off peacefully without any untoward incidents in city and elsewhere in the district yesterday. Chatra Sena called this hartal across the country protesting the brutal killing of the presidium member of Islami Front and a popular TV program producer Nurul Islam Faruqui and exemplary punishment of the killed with immediate arrest. The hartal enforced from 6 am which ended at 2 pm. During the hartal period, a number of vehicles ransacked by the hartal supporters at Muradpur, Solasahar, Aturar depot, Nasirabad area in city , eye witnesses sources said. It is learnt that the chittagong university bound shuttle train could not leave to the destination f rom Solasahar rail station as the hartal supporters resist the train and disembarked all the students from the train. But no untoward or major incidents occurred during the period. All types of heavy transports, commuter bus , tempos, CNG autorickshaws went up roads but only very limited numbers of rickshaws are s een plying in roads . All types of roadside shops , post markets remained closed during the period.
The activists of Islami front resisted the movement of vehicles from morning at Muradpur, Bahaddarhat, GEC crossing, chowkbazar, dewanhat, No.2 gate, Kazir Dewri and obstructed the tr ansport movement placing road dividers in roads. Meanwhile the law enforcers deployed in important points of the city to avoid any anarchy and violence. During the hartal period, police rounded up four hartal supporters for alleged vandalism and torching . CMP police sources said about 2 thousand additional police forces have been deployed in city to avoid any major incidents. Mentionable that Islami Front leader Nurul Islam Faruqui was slaughtered by the miscreants at his Rajabazar residence in Dhaka and he was the senior leader of Ahle Sunnat Jamaat and a popular TV programmer of Channel-I and My TV . Faruqui was the Khatib of Dhaka High court Mosque, sources said.
