PDB signs 200mw solar power deal with SSPL

State Minister for Power Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has said that the government would set up solar parks in Gaibandha and Mirersorai to encourage renewable energy generation in the country.
“We prefer solar power generation despite costly
as it is environment friendly,” the State Minister said this while addressing a deal signing ceremony of 200MW Solar Park at Teknaf, at a function held at Biduyt Bhaban in city on Monday.
The government has planned to generate 10 percent electricity from solar by 2021, said Nasrul Hamid.
Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) signed the deal with the Southern Solar Power Limited (SSPL) to generate 200MW electricity by setting up the solar park at Teknaf, 45 kilometers away from Cox’s Bazar.
The project to be set up on 10 acres of land will cost around Tk 2,500 crore. Cost of per unit of electricity will be Tk 13.6 on basis of no electricity no payment.
Southern Solar Power Limited is the local shareholder of Sun Edition Energy (Singapore) Pte Ltd.
Power Division Secretary Ahmad Kaikaus, BPDB Chairman Khaled Mahmood, Director of Southern Solar Power Abur Raouf, CEO of Sun Edison (South East Asia) Ismael Arias Guerrero, among others, spoke on the occasion.
