‘PBCP leader’ killed in Jhenaidah’ gunfight’

A suspected leader of an outlawed party was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Battola area in Harinakundu municipality area early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Badsha Sheikh, 50, son of Helal Uddin of Jora Pukuria village in the upazila and a member of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Janajuddha faction).
Md Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Harinakundu Police Station, said tipped off that Badsha was attending a clandestine meeting with
his followers in the area a patrol team of police raided the area around 1:30am.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, Badsha and his followers opened fire at police, forcing them to fire back in self-defence.
After the gunfight, police recovered the body of Badsha from the spot while others managed to escape the scene, the OC added. The body was taken to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
A pistol, four rounds bullet and two daggers were recovered from the spot.
There were seven cases, including two under the Arms Act, against Badsha, the OC added.
