The erosion at Daulatdia ferry ghat in Rajbari district is causing immense sufferings to thousands of passengers from Southern districts.

Witnesses said, thousands of Dhaka bound passengers from Khulna and Barisal divisions as well as greater Faridpur district had undergone untold sufferings for hours due to the gridlock at the ferry ghat.

Heavy torrents of the river Padma is causing severe erosion on the bank of the river, washing away infrastructures of the ferry ghat.

Drivers of different vehicles said, they have been facing uncertainty in absence of workable ferry ghat in the last couple of weeks.

“When we used ferry ghat in the morning but it was found inactive in the evening,” said a driver of Sohagh Paribahan to journalists.

Water Development Board officials said that severe erosion is taking place due to sharp current in the river.

“We are working to make the ferry ghat completely workable. We hope the problems will be resolved soon,” said Md. Shah Alam, Sub-Assistant Engineer of BIWTA.
