Md Joynal Abedin Khan :
Some portions of a stillborn baby have been taken out of a pregnant mother through so-called caesarean process at Debidwar Health Complex in Cumilla district recently.
Two nurses and a maid had tried to make the delivery of the mother without presence of any doctor in the labor pain ward in the health complex on Saturday night, alleged the victim’s relatives.
The major silted portions of the baby was taken out by the trio through ‘wrong process’ while the head and neck remain stranded inside the ovary of the mother that led her to danger of surviving of life, they further alleged.
Sensing the danger and public outcry, the hospital authorities shifted the mother in a critical condition to Cumilla Medical Collage Hospital where the doctors removed the other parts of the baby, including head, on Sunday. But the doctors said the mother is still not out of danger.
According to sources, Fatima Begum was admitted to the health complex with labor pain around 3:00pm on Saturday. After passing some hours, no doctor visited her for taking step for caesarean. At one stage, the labor pain was intensified and the relatives of Fatima provided necessary drugs as per instruction of Asia, Jharna and Jesmin Mili, nurses and maid respectively of the health complex.
Meanwhile, a three-member probe body led by Dr Tamanna Soleman, a Junior Consultant of Gynecology Department of Debidwar Health Complex, has been formed to investigate the incident. The Committee has been asked to submit its report within seven working days, said Dr Ahmed Kabir, Upazila Health Officer of Debidwar.
He claimed that Asia, Jharna and Jesmin Mili had tried to conduct the caesarean without informing on duty physician and Medical Officer Dr ahsanul haq and Dr Nila Parvin.
