Padma Bridge, N plant among priority projects

The government on Wednesday identified six projects as the fast track ones and directed the authorities concerned to implement those on priority basis.
The projects were identified at the first meeting of the reconstituted Fast Tract Project Monitoring Committee held at the Prime Minister’s Office. The projects are Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Rampal Coal-fired Thermal Power Plant, Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project or Metro Rail, Sonadia Deep Sea Port in Cox’s Bazar and Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal Construction Project.
Committee Chairperson Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting. After the meeting, Deputy Press Secretary to Prime Minister Bijan Lal Dev briefed reporters after the meeting.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to
execute the projects within the stipulated time. Referring to the Padma Multipurpose Bridge project, Hasina underscored the need for river dredging to check river bank erosion and run economic activities on the reclaimed lands.
About the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and Rampal Power Plant, the premier said the government puts emphasis on producing electricity through multi-source power projects.
In this context, Hasina mentioned that a process is underway to generate electricity in joint venture with India, Bhutan, Nepal and Myanmar.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, Environment and Forests Minister Anwar Hossain Monju, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Mashiur Rahman, State Minister for Science and Technology Architect Yafes Osman, and State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid attended the meeting.
Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Shaikh Wahid Uz Zaman and PMO Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad were, among others, present.
