An Awami League activist has been shot dead allegedly by his rivals in Sadar upazila of Pabna district over establishing supremacy.
The deceased was identified as Amirul Islam, son of Muntai Hossain of Bharara union.
He was a supporter of Bharara union AL leader Sultan Mahmud.
Local sources said some miscreants sprayed bullets on Amirul while gossiping with friends at Ataikandi Bazar around 8:30pm on Sunday, leaving hm dead on the spot.
It is alleged that Sultan Mahmud and Abu Sayeed, Bharara UP chairmana nd Sadar upazila AL organising secretary, had long been at loggerhead over establishing supremacy and sand lifting that might led to the killing.
Sadar police OC Nasim Ahmed said the body was sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
A hunt is no to nab the culprits, he added.
