Hawkers Coordination Council
A rally organised by Hawkers Coordination Council was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Tuesday. In the programme hawkers’ leaders demanded immediate rehabilitation of the hawkers formulating a policy through a committee consisting of parliament members, mayor, councilor, police administration and representatives of hawkers’ organisations led by the Ministry of Local Government following the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. They said eviction of hawkers from footpath without their rehabilitation is the violation of human rights. They urged the authority concerned to take necessary measures for the rehabilitation of hawkers before their eviction. The event was addressed, among others, by hawkers’ leaders Kamal Siddiqui, Khokon Majumder, Arif Chowdhury, Nurul Islam Nuru, Abdul Kadir, Abul Kalam Jewel, Alamgir Talukder, Shahin Talukder and Anisur Rahman. Coordinator of the council Abul Hossain presided over the function.
Janata Bank Employees Union
A discussion marking Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day organised by Janata Bank Employees Union (JBEU) was held in front of the Janata Bank Bhaban in the city’s Motijheel on Monday. In the programme Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif was present as the chief guest. While speaking Hanif said that dialogue could never be held with the patrons of the killers of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. “Founder of BNP Ziaur Rahman had rewarded Bangabandhu killers while his wife Khaleda Zia made Col.Rashid, a self confessed killer of Bangabandhu, the leader of the opposition in parliament,” he added. Hanif was critical of some of the civil society representatives advocating for holding a dialogue between the AL president and the BNP chairperson. He urged the citizens of the country to realize the basic differences between BNP and AL in terms of their political philosophy, leadership ability, development initiatives and degree of patriotism.
The function was also addressed, among others, by State Minister for Finance Abdul Mannan, AL’s Labour Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, President of Jatiya Sramik League Shukur Mahmud and General Secretary Sirajul Islam. JBEU President Rafiqul Islam presided over the event.
