National Garments Workers’ Federation
Different organisations including Jatiya Sramik Federation, National Garments Workers’ Federation, Bangladesh Building Construction Workers’ Federation, Bangladesh Garments Sramik Karmachari Federation and Jatiya Dokan Karmachari Federation jointly organised a condolence rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Sunday. In the rally the leaders of the organisations have condoled the death of workers in the fire incident of Tampaco Foils Limited in Tongi. They also extended profound sympathy to the bereaved family members. The leaders demanded exemplary punishment to those responsible for the said fire incident and adequate compensation for the victims. They also demanded safer work places for the workers. The organisations brought out a black flag procession in the city in favour of their demands.
Bangabandhu Academy
A discussion on ‘Ongoing Politics’ organised by Bangabandhu Academy was held in the auditorium of the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh in the city’s Kakrail recently. Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as the chief guest. While speaking Hasan called upon BNP to take recourse to healthy politics. In reply to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s recent remarks that the ‘present crisis’ could possibly be overcome by holding an election acceptable to all, he said, “We also want holding of an election acceptable to all.” Take preparations for taking part in the polls under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in accordance with the constitution in 2019, not committing a similar mistake like one in 2014.” Hasan said. The programme was also addressed, among others, by Assistant Secretaries to Awami League sub-committees MA Karim and Barrister Zakir Ahmed, Samyabadi Dal leader Haroon Chowdhury and Bangabandhu Academy Secretary General Humayun Kabir Mizi. Adviser of the Academy Lion Chitta Ranjan Das presided over the function.
