Work for a Better Bangladesh Trust
An opinion sharing meeting on ‘Necessity for the Implementation of Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) Article 5.3 to resist effect of tobacco companies for formulating policy’ organised jointly by Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust and Protect Journalist in the auditorium of WBB Trust in the city’s Jafrabad, Rayerbazar on Thursday. In the programme the speakers urged all to abide by Tobacco Control Act. They also called upon all to give up smoking as soon as possible. The event was addressed, among others, by Director (Administration and Finance) of WBB Trust Gaous Pearee, former Vice-President of Dhaka Reporters Unity Rafiqul Islam Azad and Associate Professor of National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital Dr Habibullah Talukder. Executive Director of Protect Journalist Nikhil Vadra presided over the programme.
Retired Teachers’ Forum
A discussion on Independence Day organised by Retired Teachers’ Forum (RTF) of Faridpur was held at Ambica Memorial Hall in the town recently. The function was presided over by Forum President Prof Mian Lutfar Rahman while Awami League leader and Sadar Upazila Chairman Khondoker Mohtesham Hossain Babor attended as the chief guest. The discussion was participated, among others, by Syed Mozammel Haque, Prof. ABM Sattar, Awami League district unit President and also a former teacher Advocate Subal Chandra Saha.
A speech competition for secondary students titled ‘Bangabandhu and Liberation War’ was also held on the occasion. The students and teachers present in the hall were enthralled by the voice of Enamul Haque Imon, a student of Ansaruddin High School. Enamul who delivered Bangabandhu’s historic speech of March 7, 1971 imitated the voice of Bangabandhu so correctly that he got repeated applause from the audience.
