Rangpur Correspondent :One person was killed and ten others were injured in a tripartite clash among the supporters of two chairman aspirants and police at Saddyapushkurni union parishad election in Rangpur on Sunday night.According to police, the supporters of two rival candidates, Abdul Matin and Sohel Rana, were locked into clashes at 9:00pm when police led by a magistrate was carrying the ballot boxes to the district headquarters from the centers. Police charged batons and opened fire to disperse the trouble makers that left one killed on the spot and ten injured. The victim was identified as Lokman Hossain, 55, of Palichara Dulapara village of Sadar upazila.The supporters of both candidates also attacked on-duty police with lethal weapons that left three police constables injured. Police used shot-gun fires to disperse them.Ten injured people including three policemen were admitted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital. The injured were identified as – Sobuz, 22, Anowar, 35, Matin Miah, 35, Shah Alam, 25, Rejaul, 28, and Sabdar Ali, 30.The injured policemen are: Zakaria, Mahabubul Islam and Ansarul Islam.The Officer-in-Charge of Kotowali Police Station, Abdul Kader Zilani, said two cases were filed in this connection.
