Over 80,000 infected with dengue so far: One more die, 673 hospitalised afresh

The number of dengue patients crossed over 80,000 on Friday as the mosquito-borne disease continues taking toll on lives despite measures taken by the authorities to control Aedes mosquitoes, the vector of the dengue fever.
About 673 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country yesterday taking the total number to 80,040 (since January 1 to till September 13), according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the new patients, 229 were admitted in Dhaka and 444 in districts outside Dhaka.
Among those admitted, a total of 76,937 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
The number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country were 2,900, according to the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room at the DGHS.
A total of 60 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh from January 1 till September 13, according to their own collected data. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 151, so far.
As many as 1,282 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,618 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS data said.
Besides, a dengue death case was reported from Jessore Monirumpre Upazila’s Salamatpur village.
The deceased was identified as Meherunnessa. She was wife of Abdur Razzak Dafadar.
Family source said, Mehrunnessa, who was suffering from dengue, was admitted to the Zikargachha Upazila Health Complex on September 7 last. Later, he was admitted to Jessore General Hospital where he suffered a stroke. She was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital when her condition deteriorated. However, his condition did not improve there as he died on Thursday night when he was brought back home.
