Killer Russell Mia alias Russell Matubbar has been awarded death sentence by trial court on Monday for killing his girl friend Saoda Aktar Mallik of Barisal University.
Md.Anwarul Huq, District and Session Judge of Barisal handed down this verdict in presence of the accused after examining confessional statement of the killer, statements of 19 out of 27 witnesses and other evidence.
The court also fined the accused Tk.10 thousand and permitted the defense side to submit appeal against the verdict within next 7 working days, said Advocate Giasuddin Kabul, district public prosecutor.
Adv Nazimuddin Ahmed Panna, the defense lawyer, said they will submit appeal before the higher court after getting the attested copy of the judgment.
