Offices housed in Manik Mia Foundation Bhaban in the capital’s Tikatuli area were left without electricity for more than 12 hours yesterday, as workers of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) cut an 11KV underground cable while diggingroad.
Earlier at 8:45 am, a group of DSCC workers started digging road adjacent Manik Mia Foundation Bhaban, which housed several private offices and three national dailies including The New Nation, for setting up stand for LED street light.
At one point of digging the inexperienced workers cut the high-voltage underground electricity cable of the Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC). As a result disruption of electric supply was occurred. The cable cut also led to a blaze at the spot, according to a street vendor.
Later, a 30- member team of DPDC came to the spot and repaired the damaged cable after hours of frantic efforts.
DPDC’s Sub-Divisional Engineer Ayatullah Imran Ali said, “A dedicated team of DPDC could have repaired the cable after eight hours of hard work. It was very tough task because the cable was sensitive and damaged badly.” Several engineers of DPDC also took part in the repair work.
