State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid has called for nurturing Bangalee history through folk culture as it has a long tradition in the local history and culture.
“We are reviving the lost glory of folk culture and none has the ability to stop our revival speed,” he said this recently while inaugurating the 16th Bangla Folk Drama Festival at Puthiya in Rajshahi district as the chief guest.
Puthiya unit of Bangladesh Gram Theater is hosting the festival with “Hater Muthoy Hazar Bochhor, Amra Cholechhi Samne” slogan.
Rajshahi city mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, lawmakers Prof Monsur Rahman and Advocate Adiba Anjum Mita, and Assistant Indian High Commissioner in Rajshahi Sanjeev Kumar Bhati addressed the ceremony as special guests with President of Bangladesh Gram Theater Nasir Uddin Yousuf Bacchu in the chair.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid said cultural fairs will be arranged in every district and upazila of the country. “We can promote our rich cultural and archaeological sites after the best use of local resources,” he added.
The government is working earnestly to protect the culture, tradition, heritage, and diversity of the country’s indigenous communities, he added.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives to protect the indigenous communities, the state minister said the government has already set up three cultural centres in the country to patronize, promote, and protect their culture and tradition.
He told the audience that the contribution of the cultural personalities is very significant to nation-building activities and the present government has been working relentlessly to develop the country’s cultural arena.
The opening ceremony was marked by a colourful mongal shobhajatra largely attended by scores of cultural personalities, mass-people and members of the civil society.
