Staff Reporter :The teachers of non-monthly pay order primary and secondary schools, colleges and technical schools and madrasahs began fast-unto-death on Friday morning, demanding the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) facility.Non-MPO Educational Institutions’ Teachers Employees Federation began the hunger strike in front of the National Press Club. About three hundred teachers from all over the country took part in the programme. The teachers said that they would not withdraw their programme if their demands were not met. President of Non-MPO Educational Institutions’ Teachers Employees Federation Md Esharat Ali, General Secretary Principal Tapash Kumer Kundu and Vice-President Rashedul Islam Tapan, among others, spoke the programme. “We are ready to sacrifice everything for the MPO. We work hard to establish and run the institutions for the sake of the country’s education. So, MPO is our rights. We will not retire from the movement before realisation of our demand,” Md Esharat Ali said. “We have been observing various peaceful and non-violent programmes to press home our demand. We also sought Prime Minster’s intervention, but there was no response,” he said.Tapash Kumer Kundu said, the government claims that education is the backbone of the nation. But more than 1.2 million teachers and employees have been living miserable life because they have no salary, no facility and no life. The non-MPO teachers have been on a movement for getting the government facility.
