Barisal-5 by-polls: Nomination of one aspirant cancelled

Nomination paper of one out of three aspirant candidates was cancelled by Election Commission on Wednesday after scrutiny.
 Three aspirant candidates including Begum Jebunnessa Afroj, widow of late city AL president and lawmaker Shawkat Hossain Hiron and AL nominated candidate, Syed M Moazzem Hussain, director Pubali Bank and chairman Delta Life Insurance as independent candidate and Saiful Islam Liton, BNF nominated candidate, submitted nomination papers before the returning officer on May 11.
Mir Md. Shahjahan, Barisal regional election officer and returning officer of the by-election confirming the report said scrutiny of the filed nomination papers held on Wednesday.
In the scrutiny nomination paper of independent candidate Syed M Moazzem Hussain was rejected.
The nomination paper of Syed Moazzem was cancelled due to irregularities in signatures and identifications in the list of one-percent voters submitted in support of him for contesting as an independent candidate in the national assembly election, the returning officer told.
Inclusion of names and signature of the dead voters and dissimilation of number of voters and names, caused cancellation of the nomination paper of independent candidate Syed Moazzem, the returning officer explained.
Begum Jebunnessa Afroj, widow of late city AL president and lawmaker Shawkat Hossain Hiron as AL nominated and Saiful Islam Liton, as BNF nominated now remained as candidates till last date of withdrawal candidature on May 21.
