Strict restrictions on movement will be enforced during the seven days ‘all-out lockdown’ across the country from July 1, said Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam on Monday.
In a media briefing following the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said they have taken the decision after analysing Covid situation in four divisions.
“We are going to take a strict approach,” he said, adding that movement of all kinds of transports, except emergency services, will be restricted.
Besides police, army and Border Guard Bangladesh will be deployed, he said.
“The armed forces will be on patrol. If anyone ignores their orders, legal action will be available to them.”
The Cabinet Secretary also said that ‘movement pass’ privileges will not be offered for the ‘complete lockdown’.
“There will be no movement pass this time around and no one will be allowed to leave home unless there is an emergency.”
When asked, Islam said, “You can leave home for burials and such. After all, you can’t do that at home. You can take patients to the hospital.”
Responding to another question, The Prime Minister has given directives to the Ministry of Disaster to take necessary measures for the poor people in town areas under the social safety net programme.
