Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has abandoned plans to introduce Decision Review System (DRS) this year due to Covid-crisis. Ismail Haider Mollick, member secretary of the BPL’s governing council confirmed on Friday.
Due to the spread of a new variant of Covid called Omicron, none of the experts at Hawk Eye, a company that offers DRS services, can visit Bangladesh. As a result, DRS has been omitted from the upcoming event.
“We cannot keep the DRS in a covid situation. Now they (technicians) can’t fly. Their two teams are now in two countries, they will not be able to come to Bangladesh in this condition from there. Hawk-Eye Company is the sole provider of DRS in the world. No one wants to come because of Omicron. We will host Afghanistan after BPL. We have to talk about whether we can include DRS in the series or not,” said Mallick.
He also stated that BPL will be broadcast with the assistance of 26-27 cameras, saying, “We will try to improve the production.
