Narayanganj police on Friday said they would proceed to arrest two accused among three Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officials in the much talked about seven murder case in the port town , as there is no bar to arrest them.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of Narayanganj Khandaker Mohid Uddin said , ” We will abide by the High Court order as regards arrest of the RAB officials. We have already received letter of the Defence Ministry regarding the arrest of the two RAB officials”.
There is no bar now to arrest the accused two RAB officials, he said. The officials are Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad and Maj Arif Hossain. Responding to a question regarding Lt Commander SM Masud Rana, he said, ” The letter mentioned only about two officials.”
The Narayanganj police did not get any direction about the other RAB official– Lt Commander SM Masud Rana. All the three officials were serving as member of RAB-11. They were forced to retire on May 6 for their alleged links to the sensational seven murder of Narayanganj. Tareque Sayeed and Arif Hossain were removed from Bangladesh Army, while SM Masud Rana from Bangladesh Navy.
The Defence Ministry responded to the Home Ministry’s letter as regards the arrest of the two RAB men on Thursday evening. Shawkat Mostafa,
Additional Secretary of Home Ministry, told the media that the Defence Ministry letter was forwarded to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for necessary action.
The High Court on May 11 ordered the IGP to arrest the RAB officials as suspects. The court order came after family members of Nazrul Islam, one of the victims of Narayanganj murder, alleged that the RAB men had committed the crime in exchange for Tk 6 crore from Nur Hossain, the prime accused, and other suspects.
Meanwhile, another case was filed against Nur Hossain, prime accused in the sensational Narayanganj seven murder case, on Friday morning following the recovery of arms from his residence. Sub-Inspector Masududdin Khan filed the case with Siddhirganj Thana in Narayanganj.
Earlier, on Thursday, police conducted raid at the Shimrail house of Nur Hossain at Siddhirganj and seized his movable assets. They also recovered a revolver with eight rounds of bullet and eight rounds of cartridge of shotgun.
Three other firearms were also recovered from the residence.
