Niko Graft case charge hearing deferred again

A Dhaka court on Sunday again deferred the hearing on charge framing in Niko Graft case to August 4.
The lawyers of Begum Khaleda Zia in the case sought time as their client is in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital for her medical treatment, while Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of the Special Judge Court-9 of Dhaka passed the order deferring the hearing. The Jail authorities could not produce Begum Khaleda Zia in the makeshift court set up at Building No. 2 of Dhaka Central Jail at Keraniganj due to her illness.
Earlier, on June 23, similarly, the jail authorities
could not produce Khaleda Zia in the court in the case.
On December 9, 2007, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case accusing Khaleda Zia and others of causing a loss of Tk 137.77 billion to the State by signing an oil-gas exploration deal with Canadian Company Niko when BNP was in office. Police submitted a chargesheet against the accused on May 5, 2008.
Other accused in the case are BNP Standing Committee member Moudud Ahmed, former State Minister for Energy AKM Mosharraf Hossain, former Principal Secretary Kamal Uddin Siddique, Khandaker Shahidul Islam, CM Yusuf Hossain, former Bapex General Manager Mir Mainul Haq, its former Secretary Shafiur Rahman, Giasuddin Al Mamun, former MP MAH Selim and former Vice-President of South Asia Affairs Niko Kashem Sharif.
