Jute godown gutted in Jesore

A fire broke out at a jute godown at Rajganj in Manirampur upazila of Jessore district on Thursday night. Sources said the fire broke out at the jute godown around 10 pm. The fire gutted all the jute stacks in two rooms of the godown. On information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze after a frantic effort. However, the origin behind the fire could not be known immediately. The affected godown owners claimed that the extent of the loss caused
by the fire is Tk 3 lakh.
35 injured in road accident in Laxmipur
LAXMIPUR: At least 35 people were injured when a bus collided with a roadside tree in Bus Terminal area in Sadar upazila early Friday. Quoting witnesses, police said a Chittagong-bound bus from Pirojpur dashed a tree as its driver lost control over the steering around 3 am, leaving 35 passengers of the bus injured. The injured where rushed to different hospitals and clinics. Of them, condition of eight people is stated to be critical and they were admitted to Sadar Hospital, said Farid Ahmed Chowdhury, deputy assistant director of Laxmipur Fire Service, reports UNB.

Illegally imported items worth Tk 16 lakh seized in Sylhet
SYLHET” Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized huge illegally imported items including bidi and biscuits worth TK 16 lakh from Nayapur village along Jointapur border area of the district on Thursday. Tipped off, a team of BGB battalion-41 led by conducted a drive in the village and seized a van around 4:30 am. Later the BGB members recovered five lakh pieces of Indian bidi, 530 packets of biscuits worth Tk 16 lakh from the covered van. However, no one was arrested as the smugglers managed to flee from the spot sensing the presence of the border guards, reports UNB.
Mild tremor jolts Sylhet
A mild earthquake shook different parts of the district early Friday. The 4.17 magnitude earthquake was felt around 4:15 am which lasted for a few seconds, reports UNB.
Whisky, phensidyl recovered in B’baria
BRAHMANBARIA: The members of Border Guard Bangladesh(BGB) in two separate drives recovered 382 bottles of whisky and 145 bottles of phensidyl from Kasba and Akhura upazilas of Brahmanbaria district on Wednesday night. Acting on a tip off, a mobile team of 12 BGB Battalion conducted a drive at Baghbari area under Kasba upazila on Wednesday night and recovered 382 bottles of Indian whisky in an abandoned condition. reports BSS.
