BGB seizes tortoises in Jessore

Border Guard Bangladesh men on Monday noon seized a total of 239 tortoises of rare species raiding at Baropota frontier under Benapole port police station, Lt Col Abdur Rahim, commanding officer, 23 Border Guard Battalion informed. The BGB official told that tipped off the BGB men seized the tortoises wortk Tk 2 millions raiding Baropota frontier under Benapole port police station on Monday. ‘The turtles were handed over to the Wildlife Conversation Department’, Khulna, he added.
Journalists stage demo
Journalists in Jessore handed over a memorandum to the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, Jessore demanding the arrest of the attackers of journalist leader Jahidul Kabir Milton. Flash floods and incessant rain across the Sylhet District interrupted regular life for citizens on Monday. Many roads in the Sylhet and other cities went under knee deep water caused by water logging. Many roads of Upshor, Sunarpara, Taltola, Jamtola, Mirabazar, lamabazar, kodomtoly, went under knee deep water. Salim Ahmed, a resident of Mirabazar, said that it took him two hours to reach mirabazar from Shibgong due to slow movement of vehicles on the submerged roads.
4 Bangladeshis return after 4-yr jail in India
BENAPOLE: Four Bangladeshi women and a minor boy returned home through Benapole check post on Monday night after serving four years’ jail in an Indian prison. The returnees were identified as Manika Pandey,21, and her one-year old son Koushik and Alladi Biswas,55, both residents of Gopalganj, Salma,20, a resident of Satkhira and Rita Rani,45, a resident of Patuakhali district. Indian immigration police handed over them to Bangladeshi immigration police at night, said Mominur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Benapole immigration police. A team of Indian police had arrested them four years back from Hawra railway station area in Kolkata for entering India illegally. Afterwards, they were sent to Kolkata Central Jail, reports UNB.
One held with Yaba in Chandpur
CHANDPUR: Detectives in a drive arrested a young man along with 6,000 pieces of Yaba tablets on Chanpur-Comilla highway in Ghosherhat area of Sadar upazila on Sunday night. The arrestee was identified as Imran Hossain, 28, hailing from Moddhyarampur area of Satkania upazila of Chittagong district. Being tipped off, a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police led by sub-inspector Sirajul Islam, intercepted a bus in the area around 8:30pm and arrested Imran. They also recovered 6,000 pieces of Yaba tablets after searching his bag, reports UNB.
