Youth killed for protesting teasing of his sister in Bagerhat

A young man was stabbed to death by some youngsters as he protested teasing of his sister by them at Shaltala in the town on Friday night. Another young man was also injured in the incident. The deceased was identified as Sohel Hawladar, 20, son of Abdul Aziz of Gobardia village in sadar uapzila. Imam Uddin, sub-inspector of Bagerhat Model Police Station said, Sohel had an altercation with 3-4 young men as they made an indecent approach to his sister at a fair organised for celebrating Pahela Baishakh at the Zila Parishad auditorium around 8pm on Friday.At one stage, the young men stabbed Sohel and his friend while they were roaming at the fair venue around 10 pm, leaving them critically injured. They were rushed to Sadar hospital. Later Sohel died while being shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital. None was arrested in this connection.
Pahela Baishakh observed in Gopalganj

Pahela Baishakh was celebrated throughout Gopalganj district with befitting manner on Tuesday. Various programmers chalked out jointly by District Administration, Gopalganj pourashava, Gopalganj Paurashava and Bangladesh Shisu Academy, Gopalganj, government & non-government organisation, educational Institutions, cultural institutions, Shisu Academy, Shilpakala Academy and Udichi Shilpi Goshthi etc. Earlier in the morning the day has began with Barsho Baran Songs, “Esho Hey Baishahkh Esho” at Bank of the river Madhumati of Gopalganj city, organised by the district administration. Students, teachers, official employees, youths, men and women, activities of socia-cultural, voluntary and professional organizations were wearing traditional dresses and brought out Baishakhi procession, singing Baishakhi songs. A five-day long a Baishakhi Mela, three-day long Shisu Ananda Mela was began at Sheikh Rasel Shishu Park & Shilpakala Academy premises in the city.
Bus passenger held with yaba at Bakerganj

Police arrested a passenger from the bus at Bakerganj bus stand of Barisal and recovered 900 pieces of Yaba tablets from his possession on Saturday morning. The arrestee was identified as Hanif Mridha, 31, son of Kader Mridha from Laukathi Telikhali of Patuakhali Sadar upazila. Anwar Hossain, officer in charge of Bakerganj police station, said police raided the bus of Grameen Paribahon plying on Saidabad of Dhaka to Taltali of Barguna route at about 10: 30 AM Saturday at Bakerganj bus stand. The arrestee acknowledged the drug peddling to the Taltali coastal area. Police lodged a case under narcotic control act against the arrestee and the accused sent to jail after producing before the court at Barisal on Saturday afternoon, the OC of Bakerganj PS said.
