Bangabandhu, Bangamata football match begins

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman National Gold Cup Football Tournament, Boys (Under-18) and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib National Gold Cup Football Tournament, Girls (Under-18) – 2022 have started in Sylhet. Foreign Minister Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen MP inaugurated the national tournament by flying balloons at the District Stadium on Sunday. Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Mojibar Rahman presided over the inaugural function. The Foreign Minister addressed the of the tournament as the Chief Guest. He said, there are not many sports fields in Sylhet. Sylhet needs three more fields. I have told the mayor of the city corporation Ariful Haque Chowdhury that an initiative should be taken to build three more fields on the other side of the river. The competition has been organized on the initiative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and under the supervision of Sylhet District Administration. State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell MP, was present as a special guest at the opening ceremony. Secretary of the Ministry Mezbah Uddin and Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain also attend here. It may be mentioned that A total of 1962 boys will participate in 105 unions and 4 municipalities at the upazila level of Sylhet district, 252 boys and 252 girls in 13 upazilas and 1 city corporation at the district level. The Ministry of Youth and Sports has selected 40 talented boys and 40 talented players from this age based tournament and arranged for their training.

3 shops gutted in Mollahat

Properties worth Tk. 10 lakh was gutted when three shops of sweetmeats situated on the southern side of Mollahat bridge (over the river Madhumati) within Mollahat (Upazila) Bazar in Bagerhat district caught fire in the early hours (at 2-30 am) of Saturday, according to a delayed report received here. It is learnt from Khairul Islam, Officer of the local Fire Service Station and the locals that at the night of Friday when all the shop-keepers and others of the Bazar were in deep sleep the fire originated from the sweetmeat shop belonging to one Sunil caused by an electricity short circuit (at about 2-30 am) spread to its adjacent to two other sweetmeat shops and went out of control within minutes. At one stage on seeing the flame fire some locals rushed to the spot and tried to extinguish the fire with the help of the shop keepers, but in vain. By this time on information a local fire service unit rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for half an hour. But in spite of that all the three shops with their all belongings were burnt to ashes. Khairul Islam, station Officer of the local fire service told, after an primary assessment the loss of fire is estimated at Tk.10 lakh. But fortunately there were no causalities of life.

One killed in Manikganj road crash

One person was killed and 15 others were injured in a head-on collision between two buses on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Manikganj’s Sadar upazila . The accident took place around 2 pm on Sunday.
It is learned that a Dhaka-bound SelfieParibahan and a Golden Line Paribahan collided on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway at Bhatbhaur area of ManikganjSadarUpazila around noon on Sunday. One person was killed and at least 15 others were injured in the blast. Five of the injured have been shifted to Dhaka as their condition is critical.
Manikganj 250-bed district hospital resident medical officer-RMO AKM Russel said five of the injured have been referred to Dhaka in critical condition. Golora Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam said one person was killed in a head-on collision between two buses at the spot. The identity of the deceased was not known. Police and fire service members are working to rescue the injured.
