New Faridpur DC seeks media support
FARIDPUR : New Deputy Commissioner of Faridpur Atul Sarkar sought support of the journalists to carry forward the government’s initiatives for development and social peace and harmony on Thursday . In a views exchange meeting with local media people he said positive view of the journalists is very important for building a developed nation.”Journalists have to expose the news positively to keep peace and harmony in the society,” he said.Around 50 journalists from different print and electronic media attended the function held at the DC’s Conference Hall. Faridpur Press Club president Imtiaz Hasan Rubel, secretary Hasanuzzaman, vice-president Kamruzzaman Sohel , senior journalists professor Md Shajahan, ATM Amir Ali Tuku, Probir Kanti Bala , Nirmolendu Chakroborti, Reshadu Hakim, Bijoy Poddar, spoke, among others, on the occasion with ADC (general) Roksana Rahaman in the chair, reports BSS.
Traditional silk sector to be revitalised’
RAJSHAHI: Director General of Bangladesh Silk Development Board (BSDB) Abdul Hakim on Saturday said that the traditional silk sector will be revitalised through adopting a mega project. “We are now in a position of undertaking a Taka 300-crore mega project to regain its lost glory,” he said while presiding over the opening ceremony of a daylong silk festival here. BSDB organized the festival on its Silk Factory premises aiming at inspiring people for promoting the silk sector for boosting the economic progress in the country. Deputy Inspector General of Police AKM Hafiz Akter, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Hamidul Haque and Indian Silk Expert KK Shethy also spoke on the occasion. Referring to the progress of the silk factory Abdul Hakim said now 19 looms are functioning in the current fiscal and 19 more looms will come under operation in the next fiscal that will create demand of local silk yarn. BSDB has put emphasis on boosting production of local yarn through proper utilization of the existing natural and other infrastructural resources. He said sericulture has been incorporated in the ‘Ekti Bari, Ekti Khamar (EBEK)’ project for strengthening the agro-based economy. Under the joint venture, around 2.68 lakh mulberry plants were distributed among 1,680 EBEK members. Among the members, 777 were given need-based training for proper plantation. Besides cultural function, the festival also showcased colourful silk wears, silkworm, cocoon and mulberry leaves rearing and yarn making process, reports BSS.
