MEHERPUR : Detectives in a drive arrested a man along with 800 bottles of Phensidyl from a vegetable-laden truck at Shahebpur in Sadar upazila on Tuesday night. The arrestee was identified as Mamun, son of Matin of Bamanpara village in Sadar upazila. Tipped off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police intercepted a vegetable-laden truck while heading towards Shahebpur and recovered 800 bottles of Phensidyl, said Shahin Uddin, officer-in-charge of DB police. Later, the detectives arrested the truck helper while the vegetable trader and truck driver managed to flee the scene, reports UNB.
Vocational training for Chandpur transgender held
CHANDPUR: A 50-day training programme on ‘Sewing and Beautification Trade’ for transgender people started on Tuesday aiming to give them a chance to become self-reliant at the Samaj Sheba office in the city. A total of 50 transgender people are participating in the training where experts on sewing and beautification were imparting the lessons, said sources at Samaj Sheba office. Deputy Director Rajat Shuvra Sarker of District Samaj Sheba office chaired the programme where Additional District Magistrate Abdullah Al Mahmud Zaman was chief guest. Civil Surgeon Dr Md Syeduzzaman and Chandpur Press Club President Iqbal Patwary were there as special guests in the first session. Deputy Project Director (DPD) along with Deputy Secretary of Bangladesh government Sourendranath Saha visittd Purba Borai Kalitola Mundir and Borai Karmoker Para Mundir under Dupchanchia Upazila on Monday. During the time of visit Assistance Project Director (APD) of the project Saiful Islam, field supervisor Emdadul Haque, president of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad Dupchanchia upazila branch Babu Asim Kumar Das, Sadhon Sarker and leaders of different organisation were present.
