China has called on the United States to “correct its mistake” after President Donald Trump approved new rules allowing top-level US officials to travel to Taiwan to meet with their Taipei counterparts.
US representatives can already travel to democratic Taiwan and Taiwanese officials occasionally visit the White House, but meetings are usually low profile to avoid offending China.
Philippine plane crashes kills 10

Ten people were killed when a small plane crashed into a house just outside the Philippine capital on Saturday, police and aviation officials said. The twin-engine aircraft crashed shortly after taking off in Plaridel town, killing all five aboard as well as three children, a mother and a grandmother from the family in the house, said Superintendent Julio Lizardo.
Pakistani firing kills five in Kashmir

Five members of a single family were killed Sunday when a mortar bomb fired by Pakistani soldiers landed on their home in Indian-administered Kashmir, police said. The incident happened in the southern Poonch sector in the disputed Himalayan region.
Lalu Yadav admitted to hospital

RJD supremo Lalu Yadav was admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Saturday after he fell ill at the Birsa Munda Jail in Ranchi, hospital sources said. The 69-year-old former Bihar chief minister is serving a prison sentence in a fodder scam case. Laly Yadav was admitted to RIMS and is under observation of doctors at the cardiology ward, the sources said.
US teacher apologizes for accidentally firing gun in classroom

A teacher at a Northern California high school has apologized for accidentally firing a gun inside his classroom, causing minor injuries to three students. Dennis Alexander, who is also an elected member of the Seaside City Council and a reserve officer for a nearby police department, apologized and thanked community members for their support at a council meeting Thursday night, the Monterey Herald newspaper reported .
