One killed in Sylhet road crash

A man was killed after a bus crushed a Laguna on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Satmile Area in Dakshin Surma upazila of Sylhet district on Saturday. The deceased is Amir Ali, a resident of the Ala pur village in Bishwanath Upazila in the District. OC of Dakshin Surma Police Station Kairul Fazal said that the Sylhet-bound bus hit a Laguna while he was crossing the highway around 03:00pm, leaving him dead on the spot. Later, the angry villagers blocked the highway for one and a half hour which halted vehicular movement. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Youth dies from electrocution in C’nawabganj
Chapainawabganj: A young man died from electrocution in Medical More area in sadar upazila on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Royel, 20, son of Abdus Shukur. Royel came contact with live electric wire while working at his uncle’s shop at 11 am. Later, he was taken to Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, rep[orts UNB.
3 ‘robbers’ held in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: Coast Guard members arrested three suspected robbers along with arms from Gabura village in Shyamnagar upazila early yesterday.The arrestees were identified as Sabuj Gayen, son of Yusuf Gayen, Siddik alias Boma Siddik, son of Nasir Gazi and Siddik Mistri, son of Ishak Gazi of the upazila. Acting on secret information that a group of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery, a team of Coast Guard raided on the area, said Syed Mannan Ali, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station.Sensing the presence of the coast guard, the robbers opened fire to them prompting the force to fire back.Later, the Coast Guard members arrested them along with one revolver, one pipe gun and a sharp weapon. They were later handed over to Shyamnagar Police Station, reports UNB.
165 houses brought under power network at Debiganj
PANCHAGARH: A total of 165 houses in Soundordighi and Dandapal union under Debiganj upazila of the district have been brought under rural electrification network by Panchagarh Palli Biddyut Samity. Local Parliament Member Advocate Nurul Islam Sujon formally inaugurated the new connection line as the chief guest at a function held at Soundordighi Government Primary School premise recently. The MP said the government has been implementing massive development programme accross the country and the people are enjoying the benefit of the development programme. Panchagarh Palli Biddyut Samity arranged the programme while Upazila Chairman of Debiganj Hasnat Zaman Chowdary Jarje, Female Vice-Chairman Lutfun Naher Laki and local Awami League leaders were present, reports UNB.
Wild elephant electrocuted in Sherpur
SHERPUR: A wild elephant was found dead at Balijuri border of Sreebardi upazila on yesterday morning. Md Rabiul Islam, Balijhuri range officer of the Forest Department, said locals spotted the elephant’s body in a paddy field in Balijuri border area at 8:30 am. On information, the officials of the department went to the spot and made the viscera report. It might be died after coming in contact with live electric wire placed in Aman paddy field to protect it from animals, added the official. Later, the elephant was buried there, he added. Earlier on October 6 and August 13, two wild elephants were found dead at Rangajan and Haluahati villages of Sreebardi upazila.
Smuggler arrested with deer’s skin

A smuggler named Imam Hossain (23) was arrested along with a skin of spotted deer of Sundarban forest by the members of the coastguards from Laudob ferry ghat area of the river Pashur under Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat district yesterday morning, according to a report received here. The arrestee is the son of one Imam Hossain hails from the village Laudob under Dakop Upazila in Khulna district. Lt. MHI Siddique, Operation Officer of the Coastguards of the Western Zone deployed at Mongla disclosed to the newsmen, acting on secret information a contingent of the coastguards raided the Laudob ferry ghat area on Saturday in the morning and arrested smuggler Imam Hossain from there and recovered the skin of deer from his possession.
