Man killed in Kurigram road mishap

Road accident killed one and injured another at Roumari upazila in Kurigram district on Saturday evening .The deceased was identified as Noor Amin 55 son of Noshu sheikh of village Chatlakanda of the upazila. The injured is Khokon Miah 19 son of Abu Sayed of village Kazaikara of the upazila was admitted into Roumari upazila Health Complex and while his condition was deteriorated was shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.Local sources said the accident took place at Mathervita area of DC road under Soulmari union when the motor bike rider dashed Noor Amin from behind. He was killed on the spot. Officer-in-charge of Roumari police station Jahangir Alam told New Nation that the motor bike driver Surujjaman along with the motor bike has been arrested.
 10 shops gutted in Rajibpur  
A devastating fire broke out at Sheberdangi bazaar under Rajibpur upazila in Kurigram district and burnt ten shops on Thursday night . The loss was estimated at taka 35 lakh. Eyewitnesses said the fire was originated from a candle of a stationary shop owned of one Faruke Hossain. The fire rapidly engulfed the adjacent ten shops including goods. The trader Farul Hossain said the other trader’s name is Aynal,Dr. Abdus Salam,Mokhlesur Rahman, Abu Sayed,Rashedul Haque, Johor Uddin, Dr. Shafi, Nuruzzaman, and Alhaj Ali Akbar.Rajibpur upazila chairman and UNO Shafeul Alam and Faujul Kobir respectively visited the burnt shops in the morning on Thursday.It is mentioned here that there is no Fire Service station and Civil defense office at Rajibpur and adjacent Roumari upazila which is disconnected with Kurigram district headquarter by the mighty Brahmaputra River.

BSD protests atrocities in Myanmar

Abhaynagar upazila unit Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) brought out a protest procession at Nawapara industrial town against genocide in Myanmar against Rohingya Muslims. The procession paraded main streets of the industrial town with placards and banners that stated stop genocide in Myanmar, stop atrocities etc.
Man to die for killing wife in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A court here yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife for dowry 10 years back. Judge of Special Tribunal on Women and Children Repression Monsur Alam pronounced the verdict in a crowded courtroom against Rafiqul Islam, son of Jahir Uddin of Zamni village under Puthia upazila. The court also acquitted Mofizul Islam, bother of the convict, as the prosecution failed to prove his guilt.

According to the prosecution, Rafiqul Islam used to torture his wife Rina over dowry since their marriage. As continuation of the repression, he killed her on May 16, 2007. A case had been lodged with Puthia police station. On completion of the investigation, police pressed charges against Rafiqul and Mofizul .
