Two GB officials get 7-yr imprisonment for corruption

A Barisal court on Wednesday sentenced two officials of Grameen Bank to 7-year imprisonment each for corruption and misappropriations. The court also fined each of the convicted Tk. 15 lakh or to serve more six months imprisonment in default after examining 8 witnesses and other evidences. Dilip Kumar Bhoumik, judge of the divisional special tribunal, announced this verdict in absence of the convicted absconding accused district. Md. Rashid, bench clerk of the court, said the two convicted but fugitive accused were Delwar Hossain, former manager and Shah Alam, officer of Grameen Bank, Raepasha-Karapur branch under Barisal Sadar upazila. Court sources said the accused collected and misappropriated Tk.13.21 lakhs from January 3, 2011 to July 7, 2011 against installments of 22 clients of micro-credit loans. After receiving allegations from the clients GB authourity suspended the officials and Anti Corruption Commission started investigation.
6 people accused of attempting to kill housewife in Rajshahi

At lest six people including mother-in-law have been accused for attempting to kill a housewife for demanding dowry in Rajshahi city on Wednesday. Victim Tamanna Yasmin Tama complained against the six people in Boalia Model Police Station on Wednesday. According to Family and police sources, on 10 February this year Shahidul Hassan Shahi got married with housewife Tama , son of Mortuza Ali. But after a few days of marriage, her mother-in-law Hafiza Begum, uncle Sasur Yusuf Ali, barother in-law demanded Tk 1 lakh as dowry. However, it is not possible to give a large amount of dowry money to the poor father. But he started to physically and mentally tortured at housewife . When his husband protested against the incident, his family members asked him to remain silent .
Human chain demands execution to CID official for killing wife

A human chain and a press conference were held on Thursday demanded execution to Azizul Haque, sub -inspector, Criminal Investigation Department headquarters, Dhaka for killing his wife Marium Akhter Parul, 30. Family members of the housewife arranged the press conference to convey the information behind the death of Marium Akhter Parul, daughter of Azizul Haque of Satighata village under Jessore sadar upazila. Parul died at her Raghurampur village based residence under Jessore sadar upazila on 20 July noon. Azmal Huda, officer- in-charge, Kotwali police station told newsmen that the CID official’s wife committed suicide.
Parul used to live in a one story residence which was given to her by her father at Raghurampur along with her two children – Rahatul Haque, 13, class-VII student at Jessore
Orientation programme for journalists held at Kushtia

The orientation programme for journalists was organised in the district on Thursday. Kushtia district Civil Surgeon office chalked the the programme on the occasion of “Vitamin a plus campaign programme”. District Civil Surgeon Dr Nazmul Islam presided over the workshop while District Information office Touhidul Islam was present as chief guest while the vice president of Kushtia Press club Mir Al Arefin Babu, the vice president and Kushtia correspondent News24 Jamil Hasan khan Khokon, the general secretary of the club and Kushtia correspondent of Gtv Sohel Rana, Asian tv correspondent Hasibul Rahman Rizu, Independent tv correspondent Milonullah, acting editor of local Kushtia Protidin Ismail Hossain, Kushtia correspondent of Bangla tv Littonuzzaman, Kushtia correspondent of The New Nation Afroza Akter Dew. Dr Farhana, the Medical officer of Kushtia, presented the keynote during the programme.
