Three including Juboleague leader, his wife and bank official sent to jail after ACC lodged case on Tuesday after noon. Anti Corruption Commission on Monday night arrested Shahin Shikdar, city JL convener, his wife Naima Shikdar and Zakir Hossain Rari, credit officer of United Commercial Bank, Barisal branch. Police produced them before the court on Tuesday after ACC handed over them, said Shah Md.Awlad Hossain, officer in charge of Barisal Kotwali police Station. Amit Kumar Dey, additional chief metropolitan magistrate of Barisal , rejecting bail prayer ordered to send the accused to jail, police sources added. ACC sources said the three were accused for misappropriating Tk.31, 65,500 of the bank by extending loan limit in collaboration with bank official. ACC after receiving allegation from the bank starting investigation found facts and Matiur Rahman, deputy director of ACC Barisal office lodged a case with Kotwali police station in this connection on December 19, 2016. The case was sent court for trial and court issued warrant against the accused. Then detective team of ACC arresting them handed over to police on Monday night.
Baul mela ends in Narsingdi
NARSINGDIThe eight day long Traditional Baul Mela concluded here on the bank of the River Meghna yesterday. The Baul Mela began on February 08 at the monastery of Baul. The Mela had been designed to promote and popularize traditional and historical monastery of Baul. A large number of Baul worshippers from India and Nepal were participated in the Mela. Hundreds of business men from different places of the country gathered at the Mela with their various business products that it drew a big crowed.It is an ancient traditional simplicity Mela. Organizer of the Mela said, this Baul Mela started here from the British period, reports BSS.
Re-construction work starts of Dariapur Bridge
GAIBANDHA: The re-construction work of a 44-metre long bridge over the Manash River at Dariapur bazaar on Gaibandha-Sundarganj road in Sadar upazila has started recently.The bridge is constructing under the supervision of Roads and Highways Department (RHD) at a cost of Taka over 5.5 crore while the government of Bangladesh is providing the fund, office sources said.The old bridge on the river had already been broken and the re-construction work for the bridge is going on in full swing amid much enthusiasm to all the concerned and the locals.Executive engineer of RHD M. Asaduzzaman said the work is expected to be finished by June 30, 2017, and a long standing demand of the locals would be fulfilled, reports BSS.
Manikganj youth jailed for 10 yrs for raping minor boy
MANIKGANJ: A youth was found guilty of raping a five-year-old boy by a court here on Thursday and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Additional District and Sessions Judge Al Mahmud Fayjul Kabir handed down the verdict and also fined convict Shipon Tk 5,000, in default, to suffer another two months’ imprisonment. According to the case statement, Shipon, son of Azizur Khan of Tangopalnagar in Singair upazila, raped the little boy on August 11, 2015. Later, the grandmother of the victim filed a case against the convict on August 18 of the same year with the Manikganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Court. The court received the chargesheet in the case on March 12, 2016. After cross-examining the evidence and witnesses, the court pronounced the judgement, reports UNB.
