One killed, 22 injured in road mishaps in Jhalakathi, Barisal

At least 1 pasenger killed and 22 others injured in two separate road accidents in Jhalakathi and Barisal on Sunday.Msuduzzaman, officer- in- charge Rajapur police station of Jhalakathi district, said Enayet Hossain, 20, son of Kabir Hossain from Galua of Rajapur and passenger of a Tomtom (locally assembled tempo) killed at the spot and Russell, 22, driver , Ebaidul Islam, 26, passenger of the vehicle injured after a bus hit that near Samobae Club of Rajapur on Rajapur-Bhandaria Road at about 7:00 PM Sunday evening. Police sent the injured to upazila helth complex and dead body to Jhalakathi morgue for autopsy and detained the bus with driver and helper, the OC Rajapur PS said. In another incident 14 passengers were injured after two buses of Seba Paribahon of Banaripara-Barisal route and Yasin Classic on Barisal-Madaripur route collided head on at Bashtala area under Barisal Airport police station on Barisal-Dhaka highway at about 8:30 AM Sunday morning. Fourteen passengers named Raihan Faraji, 50,Jhuma,24,Rahman,60,Liton,30, Salma, 17, Marzia, 44, Nuru Mia, 47, Mojibor,40, Masum,35,Sultana Fatema, 18, Mamun,49, Mission, 13, Taslima, 20 and Nurul Huq, 26, admitted at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, said Shaheduzzaman, Airport police station officer in charge.
Old man commits suicide jumping under train
RAJSHAHI: A sexagenarian man committed suicide by jumping under a train at Court Rail Station under Rajpara thana in the city on Saturday. Witnesses said the unidentified old man aged about 65 jumped into a Chapainawabganj-bound commuter train from Rajshahi when it reached near Court Station around 9:30 am and he died on the spot. His two legs were cut off from the body. The reason behind the incident could not be known. Manowaruzzman, sub-inspector of Razpara Police Station, visited the spot, reports UNB.
Pro-BNP ward councilor held

Police detained atleast 10 people, including a pro-BNP ward councilor of Sylhet city, as the latter scuffled with the law enforcers during their procession in the city’s Chowkidekhi on Tuesday afternoon. Around 400 people supporting the councilor of ward-6, Farhad Chowdhury Shamim, brought out the procession in protest against filing of a murder case against him and some of his accomplices, witnesses said. Police tried to disperse the demonstrators, while they were marching towards Ambarkhana area, by charging them with batons, they added. Pro-BNP councilor of ward-21, Abdur Rakib Tuhin, and former city ward commissioner Shoeb Chowdhury who is a brother of Farhad, are among the detainees. Mohammad Rahamat Ullah, additional commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, said they clashed with police. The murder case was filed with Kotwali Police Station on May 31 after battery-run auto-rickshaw driver Jalal Ahmed had been beaten by miscreants on a road at Chowkidekhi on April 16. He succumbed to his injures at his Lalbagh residence in Sadar upazila on April 20.
Robber held in Sunamganj
SUNAMGANJ: Police in a drive arrested a suspected robber from Banglabazar in Chhatak upazila on Friday night.
The arrested was identified as Jahangir, 28, a member of an inter-district robber gang and son of Ashwar Ali of the upazila. Shahjalal Munshi, officer-in-charge of Chhatak Police Station, said acting on secret information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Jahangir around 10:30 pm. He was wanted in 11 robbery cases, said police, reports UNB.
