MBBS admission seeker robbed off in Sylhet

A female MBBS 1st year admission seeking student of Sylhet M.A.G Osmani Medical College was robbed off at dead of Friday night at Kajolshah Road in Sylet city. It has been learnt that Asrin Sultana Nipa D/O Md. Shahidul Islam of Village Muradpur of Comilla Sadar reached South Surma Kadamtali Bus Terminal at around 2.00 a.m. Saturday. Nipa, together with her father and younger brother on board a rickshaw from the Surma market point, were heading to the aforesaid medical college where she got the chance for admission. As soon as, their rickshaw reached Kajolshah Road, a CNG run auto-rickshaw intercepted their rickshaw. One male hijacker got off and was about to stab Mr. Shahid and a women hijacker hurriedly snatched Tk. 25,000 in cash and two mobile phone sets and all essential documents including Nipa’s Certificates kept in a bag. Nipa and her brother ran after the CNG appealing for returning back the documents only. But the muggers fled away. A G.D. was filed with Kotwali Model Thana in this connection. Being helpless, Nipa and her father went to Prof. Murshed Ahmed Chowdhury, Principal, Sylhet M.A.G Osmani Medical College.
Teesta erosion victims get Govt land for making houses

People who have become homeless due to devastating erosion of Teesta River this year in different shoals under Jaldhaka upazila of the district are getting govt khas land for making houses and a small vegetable garden beside. As first part of the programme initiated this year, deputy commissioner (DC) of Nilphamari Md Zakir Hossain handed over land documents to 14 landless people in a ceremony held at upazila land office premises in afternoon of yesterday. All recipients hail from Bhobonchur char a remote and worst flood and erosion effected Teesta shoal under Golmunda union of the upazila. Project implementation officer (PIO) of Jaldhaka informed that four unions of the upazila namely Golmunda, Dauabari, Koimari and Sholmari were victimized this year due to recurrence of flood inundating vast area of land. He also said that at flood time around 2000 people left their homes and took shelter in Teesta embankments, high lands, and educational institutions and most of them returned home after recession of flood water and the rest become floating people as Teesta devoured their homesteads and all belongings.
Condolence meeting held in Rampal College

A condolence meeting and Miladmahfil was held in Rampal College Auditorium on the death of the Principal of Dhaka Science College Ummay Habiba (58) at 12.30 p.m. on Monday. She is the better half of the Additional Secretary of Education Ministry Mollah Jalal Uddin . Principal of Ramapl College presided over the meeting. Ex-Upazilla Chairman and Deputy Commander of Zilla Muktijoddha Command Sk.Abdul Zalil was present there as chief guest. Assistant Prof. Dinabondhu Paul , Samir Kumar Biswash ,Md. Saiful Alam Boktier and Sanjoy Kumar Paul delivered a speech on the condolence meeting.
Lecturer Sk. Saidur Rahman ,Sk. Nazrul Islam , Mollah Amzad Hossain , Puspen Roy , Abdul Hannan Mollah , Sk. Israfil Hossain , Kazi Farjan Munni , Archana Rani Paul , Dipty Rani Mondal , Sk. Sahanewas , Jibon Dutty Chakraborty , Manobesh Roy , Mst. Arifa Sultana , Kallol Majumder , Md. Mostofa Kamal Polash , Md. Sahidul Islam , Zohora Sultana ,Md. Robiul Islam , Chayan Roy , Kamonasish Mondal along with all the teachers and employees participated in the Duamahafil. The speakers prayed to the Almighty for the departed soul and expressed sympathy to her family members. Mentionable that Ummay Habiba passed away on 20 October ,2016 at Square Hospital in Dhaka. He was suffering from Cancer for a long time . She left the world keeping a son ,a daughter and many well wishers. Alhaj Akbar Ali ,ex-lecturer of Islamic Studies Department of Rampal College conducted the Miladmahafil. The function came to an end at 2 p.m.
