M M Jasim :
The teachers of newly nationalised colleges across the country will not get cadre status.
The Education Ministry has finalized a draft policy about the newly nationalised colleges’ teachers’ status. The draft policy has been sent to the Law Ministry to check any mistake which is against the existing law.
The Education Ministry sources said, the draft policy will be placed to the Cabinet meeting for final approval.
The government nationalised 298 non-government educational institutions. The colleges will be renamed “government colleges”. And the government will appoint the teachers through Public Service Commission. The existing teachers of these colleges will get non-cadre status.
Secretary (Secondary and Higher Education Division) of the Education Ministry said, the ministry prepared the draft of the policy with the recommendation to give the newly nationalised colleges’ teachers non-cadre status.
“Those teachers only will get cadre status who have passed the BCS examination,” he said. But the teachers, who are going to get non-cadre status, will amuse all the facilities which BCS cadres get,” he said.
“It is impossible to get honour through agitation. So be careful about lodging case against the ministry’s decision,” he warned.
Meanwhile, the top officials of the ministry fear if the teachers of the newly nationalised colleges go to the court and lodge writ against the ministry’s decision the total process can be stopped.
An official of the ministry wishing anonymity told The New Nation on Saturday that earlier, the government gave the teachers of the nationalized colleges’ cadre status. But the newly government college teachers will not get cadre status. Definitely they will go to the court for getting the cadre status.
Secretary General of the BCS Education Forum Shahedul Khabir said, they had already filed a writ petition in the Court not to give cadre status to the newly nationalised college teachers.
Newly nationalised college teachers’ association President Md Jahirul Islam said that they did not get any paper in this regard. “Obviously we have the right to get cadre status as many teachers earlier got the cadre status through nationalised process,” he said.
