Business Desk :
Businesspeople are making wholesale complaints about being harassed during release of imported goods from the customs houses and the complaints are incorrect, Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem, chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), said on Tuesday.
In case of any such complaint, they have to make it in writing and then it will be possible for the tax administration to give a solution, he said.
He made the comment while speaking at a press conference on International Customs Day-2022 at the NBR building in Dhaka’s Segunbagicha.
The revenue authority will take action if they receive any specific allegation of harassment against the any customs officers, he added.
Just talking about the allegations verbally will not solve the problem, he added.
At a recent meeting of the country’s apex trade body, the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), district level businessperson brought various allegations of harassment against the NBR. In the press conference, the NBR chairman advised the businessman to come to the NBR instead of complaining to the FBCCI.
On January 26, Bangladesh will observe International Customs Day like 183 other countries with the theme of “Scaling up Customs Digital Transformation by Embracing a Data Culture and Building a Data Ecosystem”.
