117th birth anniv of National Poet observed: Nazrul inspired nation during Liberation War

Speakers at a discussion meeting here on Wednesday night paid rich tributes to National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and said the poet’s songs and poems inspired the nation during the liberation war and also during all democratic movements and struggles.
They were addressing the discussion meeting held at the Khulna Officers Club marking the 117th birth anniversary of the National Poet.
Khulna District Administration and Nazrul Birth Anniversay celebration committee jointly organised the discussion meeting with Khulna Deputy Commissioner Nazmul Ahsan in the chair.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Abdus Samad addressed the meeting as chief guest while Khulna Police Super Md. Habibur Rahman, Commissioner of Customs Excise and VAT K M Ohidul Alam, Principal of government BL College Professor Gulshan Ara Begum and Commander of Khulna City Unit Muktijoddha Sangsad Professor Md. Alamgir Kabir addressed as special guests.
Additional deputy commissioner (Education and ICT) Md. Moniruzzaman delivered the welcome speech while noted educationist ProfessorAshit Baron Ghosh was the key discussant. The chief guest distributed prizes among the winners of art and poems recitation competition arranged on this occasion.
The three-day programme to observe 117th birth anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam have been chalked out in the city. The programme began on Tuesday by placing wreaths at the potrait of Nazrul that followed cultural function.
The other programmes included seminar, Nazrul books fair, songs, classical dance, musical soiree and drama.
BSS from Rangpur adds: Noted literary and sociocultural personalities at a discussion here have called upon everyone for following the ideals and inspirations of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in ensuring welfare of the humankind.
They made the call at a discussion organised by Rangpur Shahittya- Sangskriti Parishad (RSSP) at its office on Bakultola premises in the city on Wednesday night in observance of the 117th birth anniversary of the National Poet.
RSSP, a literary-cum-cultural organisation, chalked out programmes like competitions of children on recitation of Nazrul poems, self-composed poems dedicated to Nazrul, rendering Nazrul songs and cultural evening to pay due respect to the great poet.
President of RSSP and former Head of the Department of Bengali of Rangpur Begum Rokeya Government College Professor Mohammad Shah Alam presided over the function.
Founding President of RSSP and former Head of the Department of Bangla of Rangpur Carmichael College Professor Muhammad Alim Uddin delivered keynote paper discussant on life and deeds of rebel poet Nazrul as main resource person.
Noted cultural personality and Adviser of RSSP Monwar Hossain, literary personalities Monwara Begum, Anwarul Islam Raju, Abu Bakar Siddique and Halida Chowdhury Rena took part in the discussion.
Moderated by General Secretary of RSSP Swattik Al Maruf, its members, literary and sociocultural personalities, poets and artists recited Nazrul poems, self-composed poems dedicated to Nazrul and rendered Nazrul songs in the cultural programme.
The speakers termed Nazrul as the greatest source of inspiration for the Bangalees during the War of Liberation in freeing the nation from deprivation, exploitation, injustice and communalism by snatching away independence from Pakistani occupation forces.
Professor Shah Alam laid importance on properly evaluating the rebel poet and enhanced inclusion of his literary works in curriculum at school, college and university levels for immortalising his ideals.

Professor Muhammad Alim Uddin called for properly evaluating the unparallel deeds, ideals human philosophy of Nazrul and conducting more research on his literary works in the educational institutions at all levels.

“The common people should properly follow the great ideals and inspirations of the rebel poet to establish an enlightened society based on universal humanism, justice, equity and non-communalism as dreamt by National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam,” he said.
