National qualification framework stressed to compete in int’l arena

Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Md Sohorab Hossain said National Qualification Framework (NQF) is highly needed for ensuring quality education at tertiary level to compete with other counterparts in national and international arenas. He made the call on Tuesday while addressing a day-long workshop titled ‘Bangladesh National Qualification Framework’ at UGC auditorium in the city. Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) of University Grants Commission (UGC) organised this workshop.
He also underscored the need for transforming country’s human being into human resource.
With UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan in the chair, the workshop was addressed by members of UGC Dr Yousuf Ali Mollah and Dr Md Akhtar Hossain as special guests.
UGC Chairman in his speech said higher education has been gaining momentum and pace in Bangladesh over the years.
“Now quality enhancement at tertiary education needs to be ensured,” he added.
He also called upon all concerned with education especially in higher education sector to work together for equipping the next generation with updated knowledge and skills.
Vice-Chancellors from Public and Private Universities, Dr Gauranga Chandra Mohanta, project director of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), Dr Md Khaled, secretary of UGC, Dr Md Mokhlesur Rahman, senior operations officer, World Bank and high officials from Education Ministry, UGC, World Bank, and HEQEP, were present on the occasion.
