The National Jute Day was observed on Sunday throughout the country with a view to making jute goods popular among the people.
Jute Department including District Administration in Kishoreganj arranged a colour full rally, discussion, handbills distribution, postering and awareness campaign marking the national jute day.
This year’s theme of the day is ‘Golden country of olden fibre – Environment friendly Bangladesh’.
A discussion meeting was held at local Collectorate Conference room on Sunday morning.
Deputy Commissioner (DC)in Kishoreganj Mohammad Shamim Alam attended as chief guest while ADC(Education &Ict) Md.Golam Mostafa presided over.
It was addressed among others by Additional SP Md.Al-Amin, as special guest, Scientific Officer Rajendra Chandra Roy, CAB district president Alam Sarowar Tito, Chamber vice-president Hafeez Md. Khalequzzaman, Jute Trader Abdur Razzaq and BRAC district manager Shafiqul Islam.
DC Mohammad Shamim Alam said that jute will play a positive role in the economic development of the country as well as protection of the environment once its multiple usages are ensured.
 The government has taken various initiatives, including modernization of the state-owned jute mills, to bring back the glorious past of the jute sector.
CAB District President Alam Sarowar Tito said, the Mandatory Jute Packaging Act 2010 and the Mandatory Jute Packaging Rule 2013 have been implemented to increase the domestic demand for jute,” Use of environment-friendly jute products would accelerate flourishing of the industry, which would ensure fair price of jute for jute farmers and thus the country’s economy would be benefitted, CAB President added.  
ADC (Education & ICT) Golam Mostafa said, the present government has been working relentlessly to improve the living standard of the common people. Our goal is to establish Bangladesh as a developed-prosperous country by 2041 and I believe that jute and jute goods would be one of the main means in achieving that goal,”
BSS from Gaibandha adds: The National Jute Day was observed in the district as lsewhere in the country Sunday with a call to make jute goods popular among the people.
 This year’s theme of the day is ‘Golden country of Golden fibre -Environment friendly Bangladesh’.
 Marking the day, the district administration and District Jute Office (DJO) under the Directorate General of Jute jointly chalked out elaborate programmes.
In the morning, a rally was brought out from the premises of the district collectorate building and ended at the same venue after parading the main roads. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Oliur Rahman led the rally.
Later, a discussion meeting on the importance of the day was also held at the conference room of the DC with ADC-General Md. Sadequr Rahman in the chair.
 DC Oliur Rahman attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest. Jute development officer Md. Majedul Islam, successful jute cultivator Md. Nawsha Miah addressed the meeting, among others.
Earlier, Md. Mokbul Hossain Sarker, chief inspector of DJO, made a welcome speech and presented the overall activities by the DJO in the district elaborately.

Mobile courts led by Executive Magistrates are being conducted in the haats and bazaars of the district to ensure the Mandatory Jute Packaging Act 2010 and the Mandatory Jute Packaging Rule 2013, the inspector also said.
At present, as many as 285 types of jute products are being made in the country, he added.
